As of April 2002, the installation of heating appliances and chimneys including re-building, repair and lining are subject to the new stricter regulations and European Standards.

These regulations also cover what licenses, certificates or registrations are needed by the person who will carry out the work, thus helping to tackle the problem of 'cowboy builders'.
